The Campaign tagline for Neurodiversity Celebration Week is 'Celebrating Different Minds'.
I have quite a few clients with autistic, neurodivergent traits and they often come to me for help with eating disorders, Pathological Demand Avoidance, masking, "shyness", depresesion, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, self harm, "not fitting in" "being different" Together we look at mechanisms, distractions, toolkits and pathways
through these feelings and focus on their own positives and "superpowers". We plan realistic, healthy, acheivable and practical goals and what they will need to do to achieve them. The greatest pleasure for me is because I am a hypnotherapist, I am am able to travel with clients into imaginative realms, fantasy worlds, travel in time forwards and backwards. They are in charge of the journey, they have choices, decisions, and control which is helpful and life changing. Giving a different perspective than perhaps has been the route with traditional mental health practitioners. It is hopeful, motivating and leads to some amazing results.
Design by Harriet Cannon,
Neurodiversity is more than labels like Dyslexia, Autism or ADHD - labels that are more unhelpful, in my opinion are the ones before a diagnosis such as "lazy" "naughty" "unable to sit still" What do you think?
