THE answer we've been waiting 21 years for

Writer's picture: Hypnotherapy with VickyHypnotherapy with Vicky

My three girlies are my life blood - but what if that life blood contained a genetic timebomb? That's one of the questions I have been asking myself for 21 years. The other questions have been relentless

"Are you and your husband related?" (every doctor's first question to us!)

"Did you know your child was disabled before you gave birth to her?" (wtaf?)

"Is she going to die?" (yes - and so are you!)

"Is it genetic?"

And so, when were offered genetic screening to try and find out why our middle daughter Clementine had drug resistant epilepsy and profound disabilities we said Yes! Out of the blue recently, we had THE telephone call.

Clem has a very rare spelling "error" in her DNA makeup. It was discovered in 2024 and has no name yet. This random occurence is just that... random. No reason and no genetic timebombs. It was such a relief to know. I was shocked at how much I had been carrying that "mum guilt" around with me.

I know having Clem has shaped me for better and for worse and also my family. My two other daughters are deeply empathetic, thoughtful, ace humans with dark senses of humour!

I have a Commmunity Interest Company (CIC) called Accessible Herefordshire which I encourage businesses, tourism providers and venues to think about their accessibility both on line and in person. I do this as a tribute to the time in my girls' childhood, spent looking for things to do, places and expereinces that we could all do together. This was often hard work and demoralising. To turn this experience into something more positive and helpful to others is fitting.

I have understanding and empathy for my clients who come for support in the face of disability or life changes, living grief and caring for loved ones.

If you know anyone who would benefit from a session or even a chat. Let them know about me.
